Ashley Pitman is an Auckland based filmmaker who studied at South Seas Film and Television school in 2009 where he specialised in Screenwriting and Directing. After he graduated, Ashley furthered his skills through constant practice in other departments and working on advanced techniques in camera, editing and production. It’s through these self-advancements that’s lead to opportunities for the filmmaker to work with the likes of BBC Knowledge Network. Ashley believes that in order to be successful in this industry you must have a thorough understanding of the filmmaking process from preproduction to postproduction.
Ashley’s films and documentaries deal with human issues and themes in a wide range of genres such as drama, comedy, and romance. Ashley’s intention is to inspire and empower the audience through his unique style. As such, his films are often visualized through the use of realistic and raw imagery that highlight the emotions and themes of both character and film, allowing audiences to establish deep and meaningful connections.
Ashley continues to drive forward honing his craft. He says it is an ambitious task to have a meaningful impact on an audience through the medium of cinema. But the chance to join the ranks of Edgar Wright, Spike Jonez, Taika Waititi, and Quinten Tarantino keep him going forward.
